This shot was taken at a not so large frozen pond in Emsland, Germany near the Dutch borders, on Saterday the 22nd of December 2007. A 15 minutes walk from where I live.

Post-processing info:

Some old-school post-processing was used on the original RAW, which was leveled, curved and converted to B/W with tweaks on the Green filter setting. A Hue/Saturation layer was used to create the blue/cyan/purple atmosphere. Some noise-reduction and global Gaussian blur was used to create silky smooth surfaces and halo’s around the trees. Selective sharpness with the HighPass filter in Vivid Light mode plus some extra Unsharp Mask sharpening (300% at 0.2px radius with 6 levels of treshold) to bring back a bit more detail into the trees. Some final adjustments, such as removing detail from the surface, with the blurring tool.

P.s. My ega actually chose this one for a bunch of ‘Happy New Year’ greetings to send-out this year 🙂
